About Us
Nova – a star that burns brighter than it has before
Nova aspires to discover and illuminate new writing – as a literary journal where writers can shine as brightly as possible.

Nova was established by students at the University of the West of England in Bristol, with the intention of building a writing community for all aspiring writers across the city.
We aim to inspire rather than intimidate, to be open rather than gatekeep. Being a writer can be an isolating experience – we want to change that.

What We are Looking for
Nova publishes poetry and fiction of all genres.
We are looking for potential, not perfection.
Your submission doesn't need to be flawless – our editorial team will help to develop what makes your writing unique. We want to highlight powerful storytelling and distinctive, compelling voices.

In fiction, we’re seeking flash fiction, or stand-alone short stories.

In poetry, we’re open to all styles and forms, from lyric and prose poems to confessional and experimental.

Nova strongly encourages submissions from writers who are underrepresented in the arts, due to their socioeconomic background, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or disability.
